In Do Start, Dan Kieran, self-confessed accidental entrepreneur , co-founder and former CEO of the award-winning publishing platform Unbound, shares personal experiences and learnings as he guides you through all aspects of starting a business. Along the way, he encourages you to keep your mental health and wellbeing in check as most founders will testify: a business that you run has a habit of running you. From the initial idea to getting started, building the brand and growing a positive working culture, through to fundraising, leadership, getting your head around financials, dealing with a board and investors, and finally, knowing when it s time to step down, Do Start is an essential read. It will be your trusted companion as you venture down the road less traveled towards the true prize waiting for you at the end: not the business you built or the money you made, but the person you become. Enjoy the ride.
Dan Kieran is co-founder of Unbound, the award-winning publishing platform that he led as CEO for over 11 years, taking the business from an idea on a piece of paper to a global, multi-million pound and profitable company. He is the author (and editor) of thirteen books including the bestselling Crap Towns and The Surfboard. He has given talks about his entrepreneurial journey at Google, The DO Lectures, Toronto's Book Summit, London Book Fair, FutureBook, Hay Festival, Cambridge University and the EU Parliament. He has appeared on BBC Breakfast News, Channel Four News, Sky News, ITV News, the Today Programme and You and Yours on BBC Radio 4, BBC s The One Show, Newsnight, Radio 2. Having stepped down as CEO of Unbound in March 2022, he remains on the board as a NED and now teaches a module of the Publishing MA at University College London.
