Designed to guide your students—whether in the studio or online, in a one- or two-semester course, from beginning through intermediate drawing, both art majors or non-majors, in fine art, design, or applied art. From basic setup and choice of materials to self-critique and evaluation of drawings, this adaptable guide covers the full drawing sequence. Abundant, full-colour illustrations provide inspiration and showcase a diversity of media and artists.
Stephen Gardner is an ardent draftsman. His realistic representations reveal a unique blend of traditional influences and modern sensibilities. He makes large charcoal drawings and works extensively on-site in his sketchbooks. He finds satisfaction in the way that each of these approaches to drawing enriches the other. His detailed garden illustrations can be found in magazines including Better Homes and Gardens and Garden Deck & Landscape, and books such as Small Gardens of Savannah and Thereabouts (Gretna, la: Pelican Press, 2003).In 2020 Stephen Gardner was granted the honorary title of Professor Emeritus by the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) for his indelible contributions to the university. He currently serves as Associate Chair for the Foundation Studies Department. He received a B.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design and a M.F.A. from Parsons School of Design.
