Do you ever wonder where the iconic dreamcatcher came from?

The dreamcatcher is a gift to the Ojibwe from Grandmother Spider, who weaves a web for each of us to hang above our beds when we sleep to catch dreams that are not as they seem.

Dreamcatcher: Grandmother’s Web teaches readers to look to the seven directions as inspiration for how to live a healthy life in harmony with the world around us. East is the humble Wolf. South is the proud Raven. West is the delighted Buffalo. North is the strong Bear. Up is the hard-working Beaver. Down is the mindful Turtle. Within is the thoughtful Eagle who asks us to look inside ourselves for what we need.

With gorgeous illustrations, this book reminds young readers that they are strong, unique stars.

David Bouchard's books have won numerous awards, including a Special Mention for Non-Fiction in the 2010 Bologna Ragazzi Awards for The Drum Calls Softly, a Gold Medal in the 2008 Moonbeam Award for I am Raven, the 2004 Governor General's Award for The Song Within My Heart, the 1999 Red Cedar Award for The Great Race and the 1997 Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award for Voices from the Wild. An Aboriginal Carol was included in the 2008 White Ravens Catalogue.

In April 2009, Bouchard was named as a Member of the Order of Canada "for his contributions as an author of children's books and an advocate who has championed the cause of reading and writing, and who has shared his pride as a member of the Métis community through his stories." David has received a remarkable honour: In 2013, in Oshawa, Ontario, the David Bouchard Public School opened its doors. David was granted an Honorary Doctorate Of Law degree from Queen’s University. David lives in Victoria, British Columbia, with his wife Vicki and their daughter Victoria. You can access his web page at www.davidbouchard.com.

Kristy Cameron, a teacher and visual artist, was born and raised in Atikokan, Ontario, the Canoe Capital of Canada. Being raised surrounded by the beauty of the natural world has given her endless subjects to paint, as she observes and researches this environment and its inner connections. As a Métis artist and descendant of numerous fur trade employees, she often incorporates Indigenous and historical content into her art. With this history and culture, we often see spiritual weavings throughout her pieces, which evoke sensations such as, mystery, energy and joyfulness. Viewers often contemplate saying, “Every time I look at these paintings, I see something new!” The bright, bold colours are templates for more intricate images that unfurl deeper meanings within meanings.

Kristy’s art can be found in private and public collections, such as, the Archives of Ontario, the Kenora Justice Centre, the Legislative Building, and various school boards and social agencies. She has collaborated with various authors to illustrate books and anthologies, which have been highly used by educators nationwide.
