Effective Planning Strategies and Proposal Writing: A Workbook for Helping Professionals provides a comprehensive review of planning strategies and related concepts, including leadership and the role of the helping professional as "change agent." The text intends to de-mystify planning processes and related jargon for graduate students and practitioners in the helping professions and provides examples from the field. Effective grant-writing is emphasized, as well as information related to planning for change through the use of small groups and activities. In the authors' experience, many professionals recognize the need for effective planning, but often balk at using material that seems too far removed from their scope of expertise and academic discipline. The text presents material in a straightforward manner that is intended to make planning accessible and meaningful to these individuals who are uniquely qualified to effect positive change.

Salene J. Cowher, Ph.D., N.C.C., L.P.C. has over thirty years in the helping professions; more than fifteen of which were spent as project director of grant-funded programs dealing with special needs students, displaced homemakers, single parents, rural students, displaced workers, and minorities. She has authored or collaborated on grant proposals that have been funded for millions of dollars. She possesses doctoral-level training in program development and has served on many administrative and planning-oriented professional positions at the local, state, national, and international levels.
Larry S. Dickson, M.A., L.P.C., N.C.C., possesses over twenty years of experience in the helping professions. He is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) working as a therapist at the Mind Body Wellness Center and as the clinical director of Bethesda Children's Home in a rural community in Northwestern Pennsylvania. Additionally, Dickson is currently involved in research projects, consultation, and professional training.
