From the haunting stillness of 'Because I Could Not Stop for Death' to the vibrant celebration of nature in 'A Narrow Fellow in the Grass', Dickinson’s poems resonate with an intimacy and depth that remain remarkably relevant today.

Organized into thematic sections, this collection of over 100 poems features both well-loved works and lesser-known gems, paired with insightful commentary that places them in their historical and personal context.

As Dickinson’s poetry continues to inspire new generations of readers and feminists, this book is the perfect companion for anyone fascinated by her unique voice and profound impact on poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) was an American poet known for her unique, unorthodox style and introspective, often enigmatic poetry. Living much of her life in isolation, she wrote nearly 1,800 poems, focusing on themes like death, immortality, nature, and the self. Her work was published posthumously, gaining wide recognition. Pelé Cox is a poet, performance artist and film maker. She holds an MA in creative writing from the University of East Anglia, under the tutelage of Andrew Motion (then Poet Laureate). She has been Poet in Residence at Tate Modern, the Royal Academy of Arts, Keats-Shelley House and the British School at Rome, and is a visiting tutor at the University of Westminster, London. Her verse "Cento" appears as a frieze on the four walls of Building 7 at Chelsea Barracks, London.
