Collins Big Cat supports every primary child on their reading journey from phonics to fluency. Top authors and illustrators have created fiction and non-fiction books that children love to read. Book banded for guided and independent reading, there are reading notes in the back, comprehensive teaching and assessment support and ebooks available.

Emily Pliers loves to create amazing inventions … almost as much as she loves her faithful, scruffy dog, Newton. One day, when Newton interrupts Emily one too many times, Emily decides to make a special invention to look after him so she can get on with her work. The invention works perfectly, so why do Emily and Newton still feel unhappy? Join the pair as they work out what makes them happiest in this sweet story by Helen Dineen.

White Plus/Band 10+ books provide challenging plots and vocabulary as well as opportunities to practise inference, prediction and reading stamina.

Pages 46 and 47 allow children to re-visit the content of the book, supporting comprehension skills, vocabulary development and recall.

Ideas for reading in the back of the book provide practical support and stimulating activities.

Helen Dineen writes fiction, non-fiction and poetry for children. Born and raised in Edinburgh, Helen loved learning languages at school. This took her on exciting adventures to France and Belgium before she settled back in the UK with her family. Alongside writing, Helen loves a long walk on a cold day, dark chocolate and making a fuss of dogs." Beatriz Castro is a professional illustrator. Growing up in Logroño, La Rioja, Spain, she was inspired by the natural world around her, to draw and write fantastic stories. She is passionate about animals and books, mystery stories and enjoys listening to music. She lives with her husband and their three dogs, León, Greta and Loba.
