Latino writer Manrique weaves his autobiography with the lives of three other gay Hispanic authors: Manuel Puig; Reinaldo Arenas; and Federico Garcia Lorca. The memoir explores literature, sexuality and Hispanic culture. As one of those writers, Manrique chronicles his own intellectual and emotional journey to becoming an author. Through the account of his early years in Colombia, he provides a candid glimpse of what it means to grow up gay in Latin America.

Jaime Manrique is the author of the novels Twilight at the Equator, Latin Moon in Manhattan, and Colombian Gold, as well as poetry and short stories. Among his honors are Colombia’s National Poetry Award, a grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, and a Guggenheim fellowship. He is an associate professor in the MFA Program at Columbia.
