Emmanuel-Philibert de Pingon (1525–1582) et son temps

This book explores the political and literary culture of sixteenth-century Savoy through the lens of Emmanuel-Philibert de Pingon, a court poet, diplomat and historiographer embedded in the political life of the duchy. It examines how literary production and personal networks shaped Savoyard identity during a period of territorial occupation and shifting European alliances. Drawing on archival research, rare manuscripts and interdisciplinary methods, it investigates themes of diplomacy, historiography, antiquarianism and cultural memory. The studies gathered here shed new light on the ambitions of a smaller state asserting its identity within early modern Europe.

Cet ouvrage examine la culture politique et littéraire de la Savoie au seizième siècle à travers la figure d’Emmanuel-Philibert de Pingon, poète de cour, diplomate et historiographe engagé dans la vie politique du duché. Il met en lumière l’influence des réseaux littéraires et personnels dans la construction de l’identité savoyarde à une époque marquée par l’occupation territoriale et les recompositions géopolitiques européennes. Fondé sur des recherches archivistiques, l’étude de manuscrits rares et une approche interdisciplinaire, ce livre explore les thématiques de la diplomatie, de l’historiographie, de l’antiquarisme et de la mémoire culturelle. Les contributions réunies offrent un éclairage nouveau sur les stratégies d’affirmation d’un État de petite taille dans l’Europe de la Renaissance.
