A retrospective of Michael Golden's work, with full color reproductions displaying his unique art and technique.

Artist/writer Michael Golden is one of the most respected creators in the comic-book industry; the influence behind generations of artists. He visualizes the finished page completely in his head before he begins--as if those images had been there always, waiting to be freed. Golden's unique, innovative work has been seen in Micronauts, The 'Nam, and Dr. Strange, as well as almost every major character in comics. Excess, the first color hardcover retrospective of his work, features Golden's own words as he discusses his art and technique in depth. For Golden, "excess" defines a mind that can form every fold and nuance of a character without being overwhelmed by the frenzy. Like Michaelangelo creating a sculpture, Michael Golden chips away the excess to reveal the artwork within.

Artist/writer Michael Golden first made waves as a comic-book creator in 1978, when he collaborated with writer Bill Mantlo on Marvel's Micronauts which, Golden illustrated for the series' first 12 issues. Legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont co-created Rogue with Golden in Avengers Annual #10 (1981); the character is a favorite including in Marvel Studios films. At Neal Adams' Continuity Comics, Golden and writer Larry Hama created Bucky O'Hare (May 1984) which went on to be adapted to an animated TV series and various toys and video games. Marvel's The 'Nam series was launched in 1986 by Golden and writer Doug Murray. In the late-'90s, Golden followed the legendary John Romita, serving as Senior Art Director. Golden continues to be a major cover artist and popular guest at comic conventions around the globe. He lives in Connecticut.
