Exploring Contemporary Arabic Novels for Advanced Students of Arabic: Voices from the Arab Gulf Countries offers an in-depth exploration of contemporary novels by Arab writers from the Gulf region and is designed to foster advanced-level language skills, as well as the ability to analyze, interpret, and construct knowledge from different multimodal texts.

Structured around five thematic sections on gender issues, religion and sectarianism, racism and human rights, refugees and statelessness, and socioeconomic and political upheavals, the textbook addresses some of the most pressing issues in the Gulf today. Each excerpt is carefully selected with attention to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and is accompanied by activities that promote engagement with Modern Standard Arabic. Adopting a multiliteracies approach, the textbook incorporates a range of multimodal texts and emphasizes not only the development of advanced language skills, but also critical thinking, interpretation, and the ability to construct and (re)design meaning across different modes of communication.

This book is ideal for advanced students of Arabic seeking to improve their language skills and expand their knowledge of contemporary events and issues in the Gulf region, while developing skills that can be applied in professional, academic, and personal contexts.
