Vulpe Tempest – quirky and clever art student and trainee detective – returns to the City of Light to investigate her next case. She embarks upon a series of journeys that intersect in ways both inevitable and shocking.

Blurring the distinctions between ghost story and detective fiction, Flight of Fancy plots a fine line between the real and the imagined. Vulpe experiences life as a series of mysteries, filled with half-understood connotations and allusions. The crime she must unravel unfolds in ways both haunting and beguiling, calling into question the whole moral landscape of the novel.

In this powerful exploration of the consolations and challenges of love, where Vulpe must wrestle with the conflicting provocations of conscience and temptation, even the houses have stories to tell.

Heidi Edmundson was born by the sea and grew up surrounded by the legends of Northern Ireland’s spectacular Causeway Coast. Her parents and grandparents ran guesthouses in Portrush and she spent summer holidays working in the White House Department Store and the change box of Barry’s Amusement Arcade.

As a child, she was fascinated by myths and fairy tales of all kinds. She was an avid reader of mystery stories, and dreamed of being Nancy Drew. Her love of crime fiction developed in adolescence when, one summer, she discovered a box full of Agatha Christie books with the original Fontana covers.

After attending Coleraine High School, she went to university in Dundee to study medicine and has worked as a doctor since 1994, predominantly for the NHS. She currently lives in North London where she has been a consultant in Emergency Medicine for over ten years. She is a passionate advocate for staff wellbeing and building positive workplace cultures.
