West Yellowstone, Montana, a gateway to Yellowstone National Park, is a stone’s throw from some of the best trout fishing in the world, including the Yellowstone, Madison, and Gallatin Rivers, as well as the countless legendary streams and lakes in the Park. Because of this, it was one of the first “trout towns,” and anglers from all over the world would travel to it—some stayed for good—to fish. Fly-fishing legend Bob Jacklin and well-known writer and fly historian Bruce Staples team up to write the compelling history of this area, which still remains the epicenter of fly fishing in the western United States. This book also includes fly patterns, past and present, as well as up-to-date information about these famous rivers, making this an indispensable reference for anyone visiting the region.

Bruce Staples is one of the Greater Yellowstone region’s most experienced fly-fishers. His previous books about the region include Snake River Country FliesandWaters, The Yellowstone Park River Journal, Trout Country Flies, Flies for the Greater Yellowstone Area, and Fly-Fishing the Greater Yellowstone Backcountry. Bruce originated the East Idaho Fly Tying and Fly Fishing Expo concept, has demonstrated his fly tying skills internationally, and teaches all skill levels of fly tying. In 2001 he was the thirty-second recipient of the Federation of Fly Fishers’ Buz Buszek Memorial Award for fly tying excellence. He is associated with Jimmy’s All Seasons Angler in Idaho Falls and is a member of the Snake River Cutthroats, an affiliate of Trout Unlimited, and Fly Fishers International. He is also a member of the Daiichi Pro Staff. He lives in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Bob Jacklin has been a fly fishing guide and outfitter in the West Yellowstone area for over 50 years. He is a world class fly fisherman, fly tier, and a Certified Master Fly Casting instructor with the International Federation of Fly Fishers. He has been tying flies commercially since 1963 and is a past recipient of the IFFF’s Buz Buszek award for his contributions to the art of fly tying. There are few people in the country with as much in-depth knowledge of fly fishing, fly casting, and fly tying as Bob Jacklin. He was inducted into the Fly Fishing Hall of Fame In 2004.
