Who will win the Magnificent Race of the Animals? Frog on roller-skates or zebra on a scooter? Find a morning moon, six ways to look at a leaf, beautiful bubbles and amazing shapeshifters. Have a feast of words, make a den and then guess the names of the night animals...
Kate Wakeling's wonderful talent for revealing the excitement that hides in everyday things, combined with her soaring imagination and special way with words, make this a poetry book that fizzes with ideas and inspiration for young children, perfectly matched by Viviane Schwarz's exciting and inventive illustrations.
Kate Wakeling's first collection of children's poems, Moon Juice, won the CLiPPA Prize in 2017 and was nominated for the Carnegie Medal. Her second, Cloud Soup, was a Book of the Month in the Guardian and the Scotsman and was shortlisted for the 2022 CLiPPA. Kate has performed her poems at Shakespeare's Globe, Southbank Centre and the Cheltenham Literature Festival among others. Kate's most recent poetry collection is A Dinosaur at the Bus Stop: Poems to have Fun with, which was shortlisted for the 2024 CLiPPA Award, and won The Week Junior Best Children's Poetry Book of 2024. She lives in Oxford.
Viviane Schwarz is an author and illustrator, described by Chris Riddell as "One of the most innovative and creative picture book makers we have" (Guardian).
