In his new book, Vladimir Karamazov looks at the subject of freedom as a fundamental human right through images taken in and around Belene Prison in Bulgaria. Once a notorious forced-labour camp, located on the largest Danube island, Persin, in northern Bulgaria, Belene Prison is now an active penetentiary.
Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Valdimir Karamazov has been an actor in the National Theater of Bulgaria for twenty years. In 2019, he made photography his career. His work has been exhibited at The National Gallery (Bulgaria) and Xposure International Photography Festival among other venues. His photographs have been published widely including in Dansk Fotografia Magazine, Contraluz and National Geographic (Italy).
