The WWI began in East Africa in August 1914 and did not end until 13 November 1918. In its scale and impact, it was the largest conflict yet to take place on African soil. This book describes the history of this campaign. It details both the fighting and the strategic and political background to the war, and the differing viewpoints.

Ross Anderson spent 26 years in the British and Canadian Army, 10 years as a Major, which included a recent six month tour of duty in Iraq. He has recently completed his PhD at the University of Glasgow. He is also the author of The Battle of Tanga 1914 also published by Tempus. He is currently writing The First World War in Iraq: The Mesopotamian Campaign 1914-1918 forthcoming from Tempus.
