From Trades to Teaching is a practical, field-tested guide for tradespeople stepping into teaching roles in Career and Technical Education. Student participation in CTE programs has surged over the past decade, making it essential that new teachers meet the demands of this unique job. Written by an ASE Master Technician turned veteran instructor, this book shares approaches for translating industry experience into effective instruction and classroom management. Each chapter is concise and focused so that readers can easily digest its insights and apply at least one practical strategy a day. Tools for establishing structure, engaging students, balancing shop and classroom time, assessing learning, and more will help teachers create frustration-free spaces where students thrive.

Scott Mayotte teaches in the CTE Automotive Program at the Seacoast School of Technology, NH. A former Volkswagen Master Technician and a valedictorian at the Ohio Auto Diesel Technical College, Scott began his teaching career in 2011 at the Concord Regional Technical Center, NH. In 2015, he received a Distinguished Educator Award from the Concord School District and, in 2017, was recognized as one of the nation’s top skilled trades teachers in the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence. Scott lives in Lebanon, ME, with his wife, Jennifer.
