An inspirational book that studies the development of mark-making skills in relation to 'talk' and provides age-appropriate activities to use with young children that will have a significant impact on their learning.

There is so much that you can do with children to get them ready to write. Mark-making development in boys is statistically slower and less successful than girls. Bestselling author Alistair Bryce-Clegg believes that this has a small part to do with physical development and more to do with appropriate understanding and the planning of engaging activities. His book will help practitioners not only to understand the development stages of becoming a mark maker but also to provide tried and tested activities and interventions to use. Using these techniques, he believes they will see a significant increase in progress for both boys and girls!

As the content is appropriate to stage of development and not age of child it is aimed at children of all ages - from the point that they begin to make marks. This is an accessible theory into practice book backed up with a 'how to' section which contains real examples of effective initiatives based on case studies in a variety of settings.

Alistair was head teacher of a very successful three-form entry infant school and Early Years Unit for 10 years. Alongside his headship he worked an EYFS consultant working with a diverse range of settings to help them to enhance their EYFS practice. In 2009 Alistair left headship and went into full time consultancy. He is now the proud owner of ABC Does...Ltd? ?
Alistair's experience and expertise has meant that he has been invited to work with individuals, settings and Local Authorities both Nationally and Internationally. He has written on the subject of EYFS for a wide variety of publications. Alistair's work with settings is based on leading by example and not just 'telling'. In September 2010 he set up a blog where he posts examples of the work that he does alongside activity ideas, planning formats and policies. The blog is constantly updated with new ideas and initiatives. You can find out more at: abcdoes.com
