Thomas Epstein is associate professor of the practice of the humanities at Boston College. He specializes in modern and contemporary Russian culture, especially poetry and cinema. His most recent publications include “Time Out: Dead End as Exit in Viktor Krivulin’s novel Shmon” (Novoe literaturnaia obozrenie, 2018), and “Russian Beat: Wilderness of Mirrors,” in The Routledge Handbook of International Beat Literature (Routledge, 2018). He is currently preparing for publication a book of annotated translations by the contemporary Russian poet Elena Shvarts, titled After Paradise. He taught the Enduring Question course “Life and Death in Russian Literature.”
