He is author of Sentimental Education: Schooling, popular Culture and the Regulation of Liberty and Imagining the Modern City, and has edited a dozen books on the media, education and social theory. Stephanie Hemelryk Donald is Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication at the University of Melbourne. She is the author of Public Secrets, Public Spaces: Cinema and Civility in China and co-author of The State of China Atlas.
