Find inspiration and empowerment as you explore the life, career, and influences of Greta Gerwig.

The actor, writer, and director probably best known (at the moment) for the ground-breaking blockbuster film Barbie, Greta Gerwig, is an icon to young women who hope to follow in her footsteps and pursue their own creative passions. But what has driven her to create such timely and socially conscious films, and what inspires her artistic vision?

Greta explores the filmmaker’s life and career, including:

  • A deep dive into her filmography, including the four films she’s directed, 12 she’s written, and 26 she’s acted in
  • An exploration of what has influenced her career path and the places from which she draws inspiration, from classic literature (as seen in her adaptation of Little Women) to her own California girlhood (Lady Bird)
  • Greta’s impact on independent cinema and her work to bring more women into the film industry
  • Iconic quotes from Greta and her closest collaborators about her work, her ambitions, and what comes next for the celebrated filmmaker

An intriguing account of where this talented filmmaker has been and where her future might take her, this is a must-have volume for every Greta Gerwig fan.

The Frame by Frame series steps behind the camera to celebrate the lives, careers, and unique personalities of the beloved actors and filmmakers shaping modern cinema. In the pages of these elegantly designed fan guides, Hollywood experts go beyond your favorite stars’ big breaks and box office smashes, shining a spotlight on their most memorable films and TV shows, fashion moments, awards, and more. Complete with stunning photos, inspiring quotes, and fascinating trivia, the books offer unparalleled insight into pop culture’s most innovative icons. So grab your popcorn and dive in!

The series includes: Greta, Emma, and Saoirse.

Selena Fragassi is a longtime music journalist who began her career covering women in music and culture with the beloved Venus Zine before starting her own publication, Boxx Magazine, with a mission to close the gender gap in music editorial coverage. Her very first published piece was on an unknown Adele, and she has continued to break emerging artists with early pieces on Grimes and Lizzo, among others. Selena is currently a featured contributor for the Chicago Sun-Times. Her bylines have also appeared in SPIN, Loudwire, The A.V. Club, Paste, Nylon, Popmatters, Blurt, Under the Radar, and Chicago Magazine, where she was previously on staff as Pop/Rock Critic. Artists she’s interviewed include Rise Against, Gene Simmons, Jennifer Hudson, Andra Day, Chrissie Hynde, Demi Lovato, Debbie Harry, Slash, Deftones, Evanescence, Alice Cooper, Jack White, The Black Keys, Charlie Puth, Bon Jovi, and Bonnie Raitt, among many others. Selena’s work has been anthologized in That Devil Music: Best Music Writing, and she has appeared on televised panels regarding music matters for WTTW’s Chicago Tonight program. She is the author of the books New Kids on the Block 40th Anniversary Celebration; NSYNC 30th Anniversary Celebration; and The Work, Life, and Style of Greta Gerwig, with more to come. Selena is also a member of The Recording Academy.
