The Italian Baroque painter Guido Reni (1575–1642) arrived in Rome in the early 17th century, where he painted extensively, forging a vision of the city that was uniquely his own. This volume introduces readers to Rome as seen through the eyes of this Bolognese master, including portraits of him upon his arrival in and departure from the city, and explores the current affairs of his day in order to contextualize the artist’s great success.
