Horses of Iceland

She has since returned to Iceland numerous times to photograph the horses for her follow-up publication, In the Land of Fire and Ice: Horses of Iceland (2025), in which she widens her lens to not only capture the horses, but to showcase their rugged, harsh, and unpredictable environment. Born and raised in Argentina, Guadalupe Laiz is an international artist, photographer, and explorer. She moved to the United States when she was 20 years old, attending art school in Colorado and graduating with a degree in photography. For the past ten years, Laiz has created an extensive body of work that captures the beauty and uniqueness of the indigenous horses in Iceland. Her photographs of these extraordinary horses have been exhibited around the world. Guadalupe has published three books to date. Horses of Iceland (2019) has been followed by In the Land of Fire and Ice: Horses of Iceland (2025), also published by Images Publishing. Guadalupe’s book Among the Living, Where You Belong (Images Publishing, 2023) showcases her magnificent wildlife photographs taken in Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana, Rwanda, and Uganda over the course of six years. For her next book, Echoes of the Pack (2026), Guadalupe photographed Arctic sled dogs. Guadalupe’s evocative imagery serves as a call to action, highlighting the urgent need for conservation efforts. She has partnered with nonprofits involved with environmental issues, animal abuse, and human-animal conflicts in Africa, such as The Dian Fossey Foundation, Save Giraffes Now, and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, as well as undertaken humanitarian work for 4africa in South Sudan and northern Uganda. Driven by the belief that art and beauty transform how people think about conservation and nature, Guadalupe focuses on the environment and animals that are pure and gentle by their very nature. Her desire is to communicate through art an awareness of animal abuse, environmental issues, and the importance of educating all generations on making conscious lifestyle decisions to protect our planet.
