Rona Munro's version of The House of Bernarda Alba was first staged by Shared Experience Theatre Company at Salisbury Playhouse in March 1999 before a UK tour.

Federico del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús García Lorca, known as Federico García Lorca (5 June 1898 – 19 August 1936) was a Spanish poet, playwright, and theatre director. Lorca achieved international recognition as an emblematic member of the Generation of '27. His major plays include Blood Wedding, Yerma and The House of Bernarda Alba He was executed by Nationalist forces during the Spanish Civil War. Rona Munro is a writer who has written extensively for stage, radio, film and television. Most recently, she wrote the screenplay for Oranges and Sunshine, directed by Jim Loach and starring Emily Watson and Hugo Weaving. She has contributed several radio plays to the Stanley Baxter Playhouse series on BBC Radio 4.
