Richard trained as a graphic designer and then worked his way up through the creative ranks at a top London advertising agency before switching professions to become a children's book illustrator and designer. Richard fine-tuned his illustration skills whilst working for animation company based in Mumbai, India, and his work is heavily influenced by the vivid colour palettes of the textiles, spices, flora and fauna of the region.
