From Academy Award–winning filmmaker Darren Aronofsky comes the first volume of his spectacular sci-fi trilogy, Human Nature

The visionary minds behind Black Swan and The Whale, Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel, team up with writer Jeff Welch and acclaimed artist Martín Morazzo (Ice Cream Man) for Human Nature, a razor-sharp social-satire trilogy about ambition, power, and humanity’s desperate quest for immortality.

Meet Duke: once just an ordinary nobody, now an ego-driven billionaire chicken magnate with nearly limitless wealth and power. But even endless fortune has limits—and Duke is obsessed with breaking the final barrier: death itself. Can he buy the key to defy death, or has his unchecked ambition finally gone too far?

Overflowing with twisted humor, surreal adventures, and dazzling visuals, Human Nature hurtles readers into a bizarre yet unsettlingly familiar future, confronting unimaginable obstacles at every turn.

It’s a gripping, audacious ride that only Aronofsky could conjure—one that races forward at breathtaking speed, promising even greater thrills as the trilogy unfolds.

Darren Aronofsky is a filmmaker known for surreal, melodramatic, and often disturbing elements, frequently in the form of psychological fiction. He studied film and social anthropology at Harvard University before studying directing at the AFI Conservatory. He most known directing the Academy Award–winning film Black Swan, as well as The Wrestler, Whale, Mother!, The Fountain, and Requiem for a Dream. Ari Handel is a Swiss-born American neuroscientist, film producer, and writer who has cowritten the films Noah and The Fountain with his creative partner, Darren Aronofsky. Handel also produced these films along with four other films: The Wrestler, Black Swan, Mother!, and The Whale. Jeff Welch is the screenwriter of Bet Your Life. Human Nature Book 1 is the first graphic novel Welch wrote for. Martín Morazzo made his major American comics debut with the 2012 environmental sci-fi saga Great Pacific, a series he cocreated for Image Comics with Joe Harris. Morazzo has since worked on Art Brut, She Could Fly, and Snowfall, among others, and he’s been published by Marvel, DC Comics, Dark Horse, Vertigo, IDW Publishing, Z2 Comics, and BOOM! Studios. In 2018, he cocreated the critically acclaimed horror anthology series Ice Cream Man along with writer W. Maxwell Prince and colorist Chris O’Halloran. There have been more than 40 issues, and they are published throughout the world. Morazzo lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When he isn’t absolutely consumed with drawing comics and deadlines, he likes to spend time with his wife and daughters. Chris O’Halloran is a professional comic book colorist from Cork, Ireland. He has worked on comics for Marvel, DC Comics, Image, Dark Horse, and more. He’s been the colorist on the series Ice Cream Man (Image Comics), Time Before Time (Image Comics), Scarenthood (IDW Publishing), A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance (Image Comics), and has colored issues of Immortal Hulk (Marvel Comics), Black Panther (Marvel Comics), Hellboy (Dark Horse Comics), and others. Aditya Bidikar is a comic book letterer (and occasional writer) based in India, who has worked for DC Comics, Image Comics, Dark Horse, and Vault, among other publishers.
