A bird learns not to take his friend for granted and how to be his true self in this sweet and funny picture book perfect for fans of Kaz Windness, Jon Klassen, and Ariel Bernstein.

Bert and Dot are the best of friends. Bert is a very large bird, and Dot is a very small one. Bert loves to talk, and Dot loves to listen. Dot also accepts Bert for who he is—even covering up his big secret by staying perched on his head.

But when some other birds mistake Dot for Bert’s hat, Bert goes along with it, accepting the compliments, and enjoying the attention. Finally, Dot gets fed up and flies away. Now with his secret out and his best friend gone, Bert must find a way to make things right with Dot…and learn how to stay true to himself.
Lisa Bentley is the creator of I Am Not Your Hat! and The Dreams We Made. She has always been obsessed with reading and drawing. As soon as she was able, she picked up a pencil and began to draw and she’s hardly stopped since. She is a mother to two small people, and when she’s not playing with Play-Doh or picking up toys, she devotes the rest of her time to illustrating, writing, and cake designing. She loves spending time with her family, drinking tea, and eating cake and dislikes pairing socks, fishy fish, and slugs in the house. Lisa lives with her partner, two children, and pencil collection in Derby, UK.
