When teachers and leaders implement an identity-conscious practice, they can provide a more responsive and responsible learning environment. But how do we engage in teaching, learning, and curriculum building through an identity-conscious lens?
Award-winning author Liza Talusan helps educators grapple with four key questions:
- How does identity inform and impact my approach to teaching, learning, and curriculum?
- How can I build a more identity-conscious teaching practice related to instruction, delivery, sequence, and engagement?
- How can I implement a more identity-conscious classroom community focused on culturally sustaining learning, cultural practices, and asset-based learning models?
- How can I build a more identity-conscious curriculum, scope, sequence, and source material to reflect my students' experiences?
Readers explore these questions by building knowledge on these topics; engaging in reflection about their practices; and establishing their own action plans for shaping a more inclusive and equitable environment.
