Founded in the seventh century by St. Carthage, Lismore takes pride in its history and traditions. This collection of over 200 archive images, many of which are published here for the first time, recalls aspects of everyday life, including work, education, arts and sports. Many important events are recorded, such as King Edward VII's visit in 1904 and the last train to call at Lismore station in 1967. Famous Lismoreians are also featured. These old photographs capture the locals and the town at their charming best.

Gathered by Eugene Dennis as part of Project SMILE (Snaps, Memories and Immemorial of Lismore and Environs), these images provide a fascinating insight into the town and its inhabitants.

Eugene Dennis became a freelance journalist having taught for many years. He broadcast many "Sunday Miscellany" scripts on the national radio station, RTE in the 1980s. Along with editorial work, he has written three educational monographs and published two well received poetry collections. A collection of his short stories, "Look Back and Wonder", is due out later in 2005. He lives in Cork.
