All of the photographs in this book were taken by Thomas Page Swaine, a photographer in Broadstairs from 1892 to 1913. He recorded streets, people and events throughout the Isle of Thanet. Barrie Wootton has gathered together the best of Swaine's images, researched the history behind each scene.
Barrie Wootton was born in Edmonton and moved to St. Peter's aged ten. After a career in engineering he has been involved in the local history of Broadstairs and St Peter's, helping to set up Broadstairs Museum, as a town guide and as a lecturer. He is the author of Early Broadstairs and St Peter's 1992. Barrie lives in Sandwich.
