The best of the best from the world of NASCAR.

You can have the fastest car, the best engine, the smartest crew chief, but at the end of the day, it's the person behind the wheel who makes the difference.

From the Foreword by Richard Petty

In this ultimate tribute to the high-stakes world of NASCAR, seasoned motorsports journalist Andrew Clarke takes us on an exhilarating ride through the backstories of 20 car racing superstars – plus a few bonus icons. Featuring titans such as Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Jimmie Johnson, Bill Elliott, Ned Jarrett, and Red Byron, along with modern-day immortals Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, and Kyle Larson. This must-read for NASCAR fans is also the story of how the sport grew out of the red clay of the South and into a national, then global phenomenon.
AUTHOR LIVES IN MELBOURNE. Writer Andrew Clarke loves sports - especially car racing and Aussie Rules Football - and has been lucky enough to blend these loves with work. After starting his career as a football journalist, he transitioned into motorsport and general motoring. He wrote his first book on the history of the Australian automobile, and has written a further 30 books on car races and racing and Australian Rules Football. He has also ghostwritten autobiographies with seven athletes and personalities. Andrew has loved NASCAR racing since its days at the Calder Park Thunderdome, and once raced in an Australian support series called Sportsman.
