What really happened when Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water? Well, yes, Jack did break his crown and, yes, Jill did come tumbling after. BUT, they also went on a quest to find a looking glass, which really turned out to be a quest to find themselves. They challenged giants to an eating competition, were drowned by mermaids and were captured by goblins. Did they ever find the looking glass? Well, you'll just have to read this book and find out. Straight into the New York Times Top 10 - alongside A Tale Dark and Grimm! A brilliant combination of thoughtful, literary, gory and laugh-out-loud funny. 'This second foray is even more enjoyable than the author’s acclaimed debut' Publishers Weekly The Grimm fairy tales are celebrating their 200th anniversary this year and the continued interest in them is more apparant than ever.
Adam Gidwitz grew up in Baltimore, USA. Now he lives in Brooklyn and teaches kids large and slightly less large at Saint Ann's School. Following his hugely successful debut, A Tale Dark and Grimm, this is his second, and equally gruesome, book for children. Adam always writes about things that he's experienced personally. So, while all of the dark and grim things in this book really did happen to Hansel and Gretel, they also happened to Adam. Of course, if you've ever had a childhood, they've probably happened to you too. Want to hear more about Adam's harrowing experiences? Visit him online at www.adamgidwitz.com
