In Her Voice

In twenty-four narratives, women in the Bible speak out about their lives. Viewed through a critical lens, these women speak and act with an agency that is often missing from their original narratives. Useful for individual or group Bible study or dramatic presentations, these stories are tragic and hopeful, often troubling, and occasionally humorous, instructional, and inspirational.

The Reverend Dr. Vivia Lawton Fowler served two United Methodist women's colleges as professor of religion, provost, and president. A member of the South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church, Dr. Fowler currently is pastor of a church in Charleston, SC. Dr. Fowler holds a PhD in philosophical and psychological foundations of education from the University of South Carolina.
