The book focuses on the integration of advanced manufacturing techniques with novel materials and innovative processing methods. The core objective is to provide a detailed technical overview of how additive manufacturing technologies are evolving to meet the demands of modern materials engineering.

Features:

  • Discusses metal additive manufacturing processes, including selective laser melting, electron beam melting, and directed energy deposition.
  • Explores the use of advanced material systems in additive manufacturing, focusing on high entropy alloys and metal matrix composites.
  • Highlights recent developments, including tailored alloy design, reinforcement strategies, and the influence of process parameters on phase stability, microstructure, and performance.
  • Covers data-driven approaches for process monitoring, defect prediction, parameter optimization, and quality control.
  • Illustrates non-conventional thermal processing methods in additive manufacturing, with a focus on microwave-based cladding, sintering, and heat treatment techniques.

The text is primarily written for senior undergraduates, graduate students, and academic researchers in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, production engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and materials science.

Gurbhej Singh is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Amritsar Group of Colleges, Amritsar, Punjab, India. He specializes in surface engineering with a focus on microwave claddings, processing of materials using microwave energy (Joining, cladding, casting, etc.), manufacturing science, materials characterization, surface biomedical implants, biomaterials processing, polymeric composites, and nanocomposites. He has published more than 20 papers, of which 10 are SCI Papers.

Hitesh Vasudev is a Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering, Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, India. His research areas include surface engineering/thermal spraying; development of nano-structured, multi-modal, high-entropy alloys coatings for high temperature oxidation and corrosion resistance, Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) and microwave processing of materials. He has written 150+ papers, 15 conference papers, and 10 books.

Varun Sharma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India, with a joint appointment in the Department of Design. He earned his PhD from IIT Delhi and has extensive teaching and research experience in advanced manufacturing, including additive manufacturing, sustainable machining, and ultrasonic-assisted processes. He has led multiple research projects funded by premier agencies like DRDO, CSIR, SERB, and ISRO, and holds several patents in machining and biomedical applications. His contributions include over 80 high-impact journal publications. He continues to innovate in areas like 4D printing, biomedical scaffolds, and digital twinning of manufacturing systems.
