'Inside Left' is a political memoir with a difference; not the self-justifications of an ex-Prime Minister, but the perspective of a grassroots activist well known in the political circles of Kent in South East England. Roger Truelove also reveals his other great life-long passions, education, and cricket, with some unique and utterly fascinating observations. Prime Ministers and test cricketers also appear but so too does an American PE teacher who believed that when the lights went out in Massachusetts in 1965, it was orchestrated by Hitler. There is both great joy and great sorrow in this book, at a personal level but also anger with our contemporary politics. The book concludes with Roger's unique leadership of a five-party coalition on his council.
Roger Truelove came from a working-class background in London. He was only the third student from his school to go to Oxford University. Roger then taught in America, Africa, and schools in Kent. He has published on West African history and edited the 'Young Cricketer' magazine. He was first elected to local government in 1987 and twice stood for Parliament. He is a keen proponent of a progressive alliance, of parties working together.
