By definition, translators are intercultural mediators. This book explores some of the most important current approaches in defining intercultural competence for translators. At the same time, it provides real-life examples of different approaches in operationalizing intercultural competence and teaching it in a translator-training context. Written for a global audience, the book provides an informative overview of the field as well as practical examples from different academic and cultural contexts. This book was originally published as a special issue of The Interpreter and Translator Trainer.

Daniel Tomozeiu is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster, UK, specializing in communication and culture. In addition to his academic work, he is an intercultural coach and trainer. Kaisa Koskinen is Professor of Translation Studies at the University of Tampere, Finland. A specialist on translation sociology, her research interests include translating in and for institutions, the ethics of translation, retranslation, user-centered translation, and the future of the translation profession. Adele D’Arcangelo is Associate Professor at the University of Bologna, Italy. Her research is focused on translation training (especially translation and revision techniques) and on literary and theatre translation, with specific attention to sociological aspects and publishing policies.
