VPS Rana serves as Chief Advisor for the Himalay Unnati Mission (HUM), India, a movement to preserve, protect and resurrect the ecological, economic, cultural and spiritual heritage of Himalayas. Besides writing on service matters, he has also published works on water security and environmental issues. He is recipient of presidential awards, Vishist Sewa Medal and Param Vishist Sewa Medal. Rana retired as AOA and also headed the IAF Administration during COVID crisis and coordinated the overall IAF effort in supplies, administration and medical response. An avid reader and academician, he also served as instructor at prestigious Defence Services Staff Colleges at Wellington, India, and also at Defence Services Command and Staff College Lusaka in Zambia.
