Jumanji is the picture book that inspired a movie franchise, by the creator of bestselling The Polar Express: Caldecott Medal winning Chris Van Allsburg. When Peter and Judy start to play a mysterious board game, they have no idea they're about to be sucked into a whole new world of adventure and danger, of hungry lions and devastating jungle storms... but the game cannot finish until one of the players reaches The Golden City. Discover the original picture book that inspired Jumanji (1995), the family classic movie starring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst, Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005), and later Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), and Jumanji: the Next Level (2019) starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan.
Chris van Allsburg lives in Providence, Rhode Island and lectures at the Rhode Island School of Design. He is a sculptor and artist, and twice winner of the Caldecott Medal, first for Jumanji, and then for The Polar Express. He has also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Illustrators in October 2009.
