Featured here are images of the town centre before its heart was ripped out by the developers in the 1970s. Also included are scenes showing Kilmarnock during wartime and at work and play.
Frank Beattie was born in Kilmarnock in 1952 and brought up in the town. He was educated at Kilmarnock Academy. In 1972 he joined the editorial team at the Kilmarnock Standard. Today he is one of a team of production editors based at the Scottish and Universal Newspaper plant at Irvine. He writes a Memories page for the Kilmarnock Standard. He lives in the village of Waterside with his family.
