This comprehensive biography chronicles the remarkable life and intellectual contributions of K. Satchidananda Murty (1924–2011), one of India's most distinguished philosophers and educators. From his early years through his tenure as Vice-Chairman of the University Grants Commission, the book traces Murty's journey as a scholar who bridged Eastern and Western philosophical traditions while shaping India's educational landscape. The biography provides detailed insights into Murty's philosophical work spanning comparative religion, Vedanta, Buddhism, Taoism, and philosophy of education. Readers will discover how Murty organized international symposiums, published groundbreaking works including collaborations on Radhakrishnan's philosophy, and influenced generations of students and scholars. The book examines his administrative leadership, his role in shaping national education policy under Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and his enduring legacy in Indian philosophical thought. Through fourteen comprehensive chapters, the work illuminates Murty's contributions to peace studies, international understanding, and the development of Indian philosophical discourse in the global arena. This book is an essential reading for scholars and students of Indian philosophy, comparative philosophy, philosophy of education, and biographical studies. It will appeal to academic researchers in philosophy, religion, and South Asian studies, as well as general readers interested in the intellectual history of modern India and the lives of influential thinkers who shaped contemporary philosophical discourse.
