The fact that English has always borrowed heavily from other languages is well known. However, the systemic long-term effects of the processes involved in such contacts are under-researched. This collection of articles takes a more wide-spanning approach, looking at various periods and phenomena across the centuries. Gabriella Mazzon was born in Naples, Italy. She has worked in various Italian universities and is full professor of English linguistics at the University of Innsbruck, Austria since 2011. She has published extensively on varieties of English and the use of English in post-colonial contexts, on English negation and on historical (socio)pragmatics, especially terms of address, discourse markers, modality, stance in correspondence and dramatic dialogue.
