A welter of new laws, newly applied laws, and judicial decisions has altered the character of educational instruction and administration; in many respects, the nature of the faculty member’s and administrator’s legal responsibility has undergone a drastic change. At a time when grave risks exist in the failure to follow legally defined procedures,
Patricia A. Hollander, general counsel to the American Association of University Administrators since 1972, has served as the director of the program in law and social science, Survey Research Center, State University of New York at Buffalo, and as visiting professor at the University of Virginia, where she taught a doctoral course on legal aspects of College administration. Ms. Hollander is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York and Missouri bar associations, as well as the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the National Organization on Legal Problems. She also maintains an office in Washington for consulting on law and education and writes a regular column on Recent Court Decisions for Communique , a quarterly publication of the AAUA.
