Mystique, legend, or classic - these weighty words have often been applied to the history of the Leica M and its system. To those who have worked on, for, or with this system, it was and remains above all a unique photographic tool. Worldwide, there is no other product as technically sophisticated as this camera, whose concept and design have retained nearly unchanged for more than six decades. The story of how it came to be, and the stories of the people who made their own personal contributions to its creation and evolution, are described in this volume through fascinating words and a plethora of illustrations. Text in English and German.
For fifty years now, Günter Osterloh has been collecting Leica M cameras while working for Leitz and Leica. As product manager and as 'dean' of the Leica Academy, he got to know nearly all the individuals who contributed to the creation of the Leica M system. He is also in charge of the Leica archive in Germany and is currently working on a 15-metre-long exhibiton 'wall' which shows the history of the Leica factory at their headquarters in Wetzlar, Germany.
