Thomas Brassey (1805-1870) was the king of railways. He was perhaps the most important railway contractor in the world in the nineteenth century. This is a collection of letters of this great engineer.

Sir Arthur Helps (1813 - 1875) was a brilliant historian whose prolific output included The Life of Columbus (1869), The Life of Pizarro (1869), and The Life of Hernando Cortes (1871). He became intimate with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and was invited to write an introduction to the collection of speeches and addresses by Albert published after his death.
