Lifelines is a work of collective research on the spaces where life intertwines, mingles, and twists in constant resistance to the mechanisms that capture, exploit, and create the social and environmental precariousness that characterizes the violent techno-capitalist present. The book investigates the roles and challenges of design in uncertain spaces and brings together empirical explorations from Italy, Ecuador, the US, Lebanon, Germany, and the UK.
Camillo Boano is full professor of Urban Design and Critical Theory at the Bartlett Development Planning Unit at University College London, and full professor of Architecture and Urban Design at Politecnico di Torino. He is co-director of the UCL Urban Laboratory. He worked in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East on urban infrastructures, habitability, and displacement. Camillo’s research has centered on the encounters between critical theory, radical philosophy, and urban design.
