What if one biblical insight could change your marriage forever?

Have you ever walked away from a conversation with your spouse, wondering how two people who love each other could misunderstand each other so easily? You meant one thing. Your spouse heard something entirely different. Before long you find yourselves caught in a cycle of frustration, distance, or silence. Many couples assume the answer is to try harder or talk longer. But what if the real problem is not effort or communication? What if the problem is perspective? Just as a dark room changes instantly when a light is switched on, the right biblical insight can illuminate what once seemed confusing in marriage.

In this six-session video Bible study based on Lightbulb Moments in Marriage, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs shares twelve powerful biblical perspectives that have helped thousands of couples understand what is really happening between them. Each session offers a fresh lightbulb moment that helps you see your spouse, yourself, and your marriage through the illuminating wisdom of Scripture. What if your marriage does not need more effort, just more light?

Benefits of the Study

  • Break Through the Communication Barrier: Instead of having the same frustrating arguments on repeat, you will discover practical ways to truly hear and understand each other.
  • Transform Unmet Expectations into Shared Hope: We all enter marriage with an invisible checklist of how things "should" be. When reality does not match up, resentment can easily build behind closed doors. You will learn how to identify these hidden expectations and gracefully replace them with mutual goals, bringing peace, teamwork, and genuine joy back into your home.
  • Find True Spiritual Alignment: It is tough when you feel spiritually disconnected from the person you love most. You will discover that growing closer to God together naturally pulls you much closer to one another, creating a solid foundation for your family.
  • Turn Daily Irritations into Opportunities for Grace: You’ll shift your focus from your spouse's flaws to your shared strengths, stopping the cycle of daily irritation in its tracks.

Features of the Study

  1. Individual Access to Streaming Videos
  2. Group Study and Discussion Questions
  3. Personal Homework and Spouse Check-Ins
  4. Biblical Foundations and Practical Applications
  5. Pastoral Encouragement from Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

Video Sessions

  1. Our Value and Our Intent (29 minutes) Your worth is God-given and sealed at the cross—freeing you to bring your identity in Christ into your relationship rather than seeking it from your spouse.
  2. Our Eternity and Our Worldview (29 minutes) Explore how marriage becomes a sacred tool and test for living God’s way.
  3. Our Clarity and Our Harmony (38 minutes) Explore how mutual understanding—listening for what’s meant and felt, not just what’s said—helps couples break the love/respect cycle in conflict.
  4. Our Acknowledgment and Our Tension (40 minutes) Discover how to strengthen your marriage by recognizing “gray areas,” addressing common biases, and replacing judgment with curiosity so you can honor differing perspectives as valid.
  5. Our Self-Awareness and Our Authenticity (36 minutes) Explore how Ephesians 5:33 reveals the powerful love-and-respect cycle in marriage.
  6. Our Forgiveness and Our Empowerment (38 minutes) Interpret hurt with grace, break the cycle of silence and misunderstanding, and choose forgiveness over bitterness so healing can take root.

Emerson Eggerichs, PhD, is an internationally known communication expert and author of the New York Times bestseller Love & Respect.  Just as Dr. Eggerichs transformed millions of marital relationships with a biblical understanding of love and respect, he also turned these principles to one of the most important relationships of all in Mother & Son:  The Respect Effect.  As a communication expert, Emerson has also spoken to groups such as the NFL, NBA, PGA, US Navy SEALs and members of Congress. He was the senior pastor of Trinity Church in East Lansing, Michigan for almost twenty years.  Emerson holds a PhD in child and family ecology from Michigan State University, a BA in Biblical Studies from Wheaton College, an MA in communications from Wheaton College Graduate School, and an MDiv from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. He and his wife Sarah have been married since 1973 and have three adult children.
