Brookwood Cemetery was the largest burial ground in the world when it was opened in 1854 by the London Necropolis & Mausoleum Company. This work provides a guide to the art and architecture of Brookwood, and includes brief biographies of over 800 individuals who have been buried there.

John M. Clarke has been interested in Brookwood Cemetery since 1976, and has been conducting guided walks around the cemetery for 15 years. He was instrumental in setting up the Brookwood Cemetery Society in 1992 and is its chairrman and webmaster. John lives in Surbiton.
