A tense and provocative play offering a remarkably fresh and painful take on our perpetual guilt in the face of poverty and brutality in the developing world.

Michael, a married man running a small business, accompanies a squabbling delegation of bishops to Africa as a lay volunteer. There, an unsettling encounter with a hotel porter leads to a series of agonising moral dilemmas that compromise his work, his marriage – and his faith.

Drew Pautz's play Love the Sinner was first staged at the National Theatre, London, in 2010.

DREW PAUTZ was born in 1972 and brought up in Canada, where he graduated from the University of Toronto. His most recent plays were Someone Else's Shoes (Soho Theatre, 2007) and Poor Cousin (Hampstead Theatre studio/Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama). As a designer he has worked in Germany, Switzerland and Italy as well as with several dance and experimental theatre companies in the UK. He now lives in London.
