A detailed, comparative look at the design, development, and combat performance of the M60 and the T-62.

Designed for the battlefields of Europe at the height of the Cold War, the M60 and T-62 were the premier combat tanks of their day. However, it was in the deserts of the Middle East that they finally met in battle.

This Duel title examines the design and development of these main battle tanks, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, and describing and analyzing their performance on the battlefield during the Yom Kippur War, the Iran–Iraq War, and the first Gulf War.

David Isby is an experienced author, having written or edited 20 books and over 350 articles in journals such as Jane's Intelligence Review and Air Force Monthly. His work on World War 2 military aviation includes Jane's At the Controls The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress (London, 1999, Harper Collins) and editing three volumes of Luftwaffe accounts. He is an experienced pilot (and son of a USAAF C-47 navigator).

Lon Nordeen is an experienced writer on Cold War armor, having spent several months researching in Russian and American archives to research the history of the T-62 and M60 tanks. He worked for more than 40 years in aerospace and is the author/co-author of more than 12 published books on aerospace, military history and defence.
