The Madness of Todd Serlin an intersection of toxic nirvana and urban daydreams. This book celebrates the human condition with unexpected heroes and colorful primitive figures that present exaggerated features and flaws to mirror the beauty and pain of our shared experience. The Madness of Tood Serlin's linear compositions reveal a penchant for abstraction and are fueled by the rhythmic chaos of urban surroundings, people, and cultural influence. Every page, every artwork offers an opportunity to channel expression, tension, and energy – bringing the outside in while simultaneously letting go. The Madness of Todd Serlin is for people to experience a unique feeling when viewing the book – to inspire dialogue and encourage the audience to decipher and create their own narrative.
Todd Serlin is a contemporary artist currently living in Southern California. A childhood fascination with monsters and myths evolved into the body of enigmatic faces and primitive subjects featured in his early work, where monsters were his heroes. Often presented alongside elements of danger and turmoil, his toothy characters exhibit unique personalities, underlying tension, and colorful boldness. Intersections of art and music have been instrumental in Serlin's evolution as an artist. During college, he founded a design company that landed him on several tours with the Grateful Dead. His linear-abstract style broadened in scope and became a driving force in his recent work. Serlin's influences include Jackson Pollock, Jean Dubuffet, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Seen, and Stanley Mouse.
