Makiguchi and Gandhi explores ideas about Japanese educator Tsunesaburo Makiguchi (1871-1944) and Indian political leader Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) as examples of inspiration for large mass movements in the 20th century. Based on research done in Japan, India, Hawai'i, and the United Kingdom, this book breaks new ground by examining and theorizing the fate of dissident thinkers and raises the question often asked by both Gandihan and Soka scholars alike- were they truly radical thinkers?
Dr. Namrata Sharma holds a Ph.D. in education from the Institute of Education, University of London. Dr. Sharma is an educational researcher and has worked on intercultural education in Japan, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. She has authored the book Values Creators in Education (1999. Regency Publications), and has published several papers and articles on the educational values of Mahatma Gandhi and two presidents of the Soka Gakkai International— Tsunesaburo Makiguchi and Daisaku Ikeda.
